Paid Firefighter/Trainee for the City of Reidsville Fire Department

Job Duties
Provides response to fires and/or emergency medical calls. Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fire including rescue, entry, ventilation and salvage work as certified to perform these jobs. Operates fire and/or emergency medical equipment, as certified. Participates in post-fire operations of cleaning and salvage. Reports facility maintenance, radio, vehicle and equipment problems to appropriate level of authority. Performs routine maintenance and servicing of equipment including washing and waxing trucks, checking batteries, checking fuel and oil levels, cleaning and drying hoses, inspection of hose and hose connections for damage and wear. Attends in-service classes to maintain and/or acquire current knowledge of fire suppression and/or emergency medical technology, participates in physical training. Performs related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid North Carolina Class C driver’s license. Subject to recruit school, departmental skill assessment and probationary trial.
- Must live within 30 minutes of Reidsville City limits for emergency call back situations.
- Background check, pre-employment drug screen and physical required. EOE
Preferred Qualifications
- NC Firefighter Certification issued by NCOSFM.
- EMT Basic issued by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.
- Experience in the area of Firefighting and/or Emergency Medical Technician work. A degree in fire science or any other related emergency service degree.
Physical Demands
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, running, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate cars and other equipment.
