What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at City of Republic?
Ensures safety of all campers at all times. Transports campers and Summer Adventure Camp staff to and from all field trips and activities taking place offsite. Remains at the field trip site at all times unless instructed otherwise.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator (Programming) and Summer Adventure Camp Directors. Under the general supervision of the Recreation Superintendent (Operations, Programming, & Events).
- Transports Republic Parks & Recreation program participants and employees to and from all field trips and activities not on the premises.
- Always puts the best interest and safety of the campers first.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
- Maintain bus cleanliness.
- Follow all bus procedures, rules, and driving laws.
- Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees, campers, parents/guardians, and the general public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Important Duties
- Attends all in-service training sessions deemed necessary by supervisors.
- Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned area.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Education & Experience
Prior professional experience working with children preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must be a self-starter who possesses initiative and urgency in their work. Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; Must have good time management skills; Must have good cognitive and analytical skills; Must be able to handle stressful situations; Must be able to quickly assess or judge situations; Must be able to make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility.
Special Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have reliable transportation
- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License.
- Must have a current valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) passenger endorsement.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- Will be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
- May be subject to random substance abuse testing.
Physical Demands
Performs bending and reaching to both ground level and overhead; lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 60 pounds; must be able to hold and grip objects; must be able to stand for prolonged periods.
Work Environment
Both indoor and outdoor working environments with exposure to dust, pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals, smoke, contagious diseases, electrical and mechanical hazards associated with equipment, extreme noise; Subject to variety of extreme weather conditions; May work in confined places and awkward positions.
