What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Municipal Court Clerk position at City of Republic?
Primary Purpose
To perform a variety of office functions in connection with the Republic Municipal Court system, and to be able to fill in as the Municipal Court Clerk in their absence.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Municipal Court Clerk.
- Provides general customer service, including but not limited to, checking the drop box each morning, checking people in for Court, collecting payments, updating citizen’s personal information on file as needed, handling questions and complaints, etc.
- Enters served or recalled warrant information received and reconciles it with the current records of our Republic Police Department. Tracks outstanding bonds and all other related paperwork.
- Maintains records of defendants assigned to community service or any other program as a condition of probation.
- Assists in the preparation of the Court calendar and ensures that all docket entries are accurate and distributed to appropriate agencies or persons.
- Assists with disposition paperwork, sends notices to those that did not show for Court, and handles resets as needed.
- Reads and interprets applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations affecting court operations. Ascertain the Municipal Court remains in compliance with MOS (Minimum Operating Standards) per the Missouri Supreme Court.
- Ensures that data entries are accurate and reflect appropriate case information.
- Dispenses information based on ordinances, departmental operations, etc. as required.
- Completes special projects as assigned, including but not limited to preparing reports upon request.
- Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Important Duties
- Completes assigned training as deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.
- Assists with the retention and applicable destruction of records.
- Maintains neat and orderly work area.
Education & Experience
- At least one (1) year of responsible office work, preferably in a court.
- Bachelor’s degree in office or business administration or related discipline is preferred. Work experience in an appropriate field may be substituted for formal education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Must be able to memorize and retain information; Must be able to plan and organize court activities; Must be able to work independently without direct supervision; Must be able to learn court computer applications within a reasonable time frame; Must be able to prepare clear and accurate reports; Must have good time management skills; Must have good written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to read, understand, learn and enforce application ordinances or regulations concerning court operations; Must be able to work under stressful situations.

Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License and in some cases must provide own vehicle for on-the-job transportation purposes.
- Must be bondable.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
Physical Demands
Must have manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and mouse; Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be able to lift and carry approximately 30 pounds. Job may involve lateral mobility and reaching.
Work Environment
Primarily indoors with heating and cooling in a general office environment
