Primary PurposeAssists in the general supervision and guidance of the aquatic facility to ensure the safety of both the public and environment by focusing on accident prevention and responding to emergency situations. Manages the assigned lifeguard rotation while on stand to ensure the safety of both the public and environment by focusing on accident prevention and being one of the first to act in emergency situations.SupervisionUnder the direct supervision of the Aquatics Park Supervisors and Aquatics Administrator, or as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Offers daily oversight of all staff as assigned for aquatic operations and services.Assists in the planning and implementation of the facility’s related trainings and programs.Knows and follows proper pool facility opening and closing procedures.Inspects the pool for safety and aesthetic quality.Maintains an alert position at all times, including keeping unnecessary talk with visitors to a bare minimum.Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. Administers First Aid as needed.Always presents a professional appearance and attitude and maintains a high standard of customer service.Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.Participates in skill development once a week.Knows, understands, and enforces all rules and regulations governing the conduct of pool patrons and facility emergency procedures.Does not leave pool area or station until relieved by another lifeguard or until all patrons are out of the pool.Responds to the public needs in a courteous manner and reports comments regarding the physical facility, staff, or public to the supervisor. Consults managers when patrons refuse to obey rules.Reports to work regardless of weather conditions, unless called by the manager.Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the general public.Performs other duties as assigned.Important DutiesAttends all training sessions as deemed appropriate by the supervisor or department head.Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned area.Maintains neat and orderly work area.

Physical DemandsPerforms bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to reach, grip and hold; Must be able to sit, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time; Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry 60 pounds. Work EnvironmentMostly outdoor working environments with exposure to dust and pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical and mechanical hazards associated with equipment, extreme noise; Subject to variety of extreme weather condition; Susceptible to safety hazards associated with working in and around high traffic volume; Works in confined places and awkward positions. Miscellaneous RequirementsWill be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.Subject to emergency call-in. Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force. May be subject to random substance abuse testing.
