What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Intern position at City of Richfield, MN?
Under direct supervision of the City Engineer, with general direction from the Department’s management team, will perform work of average difficulty in the multi-faceted Public Works Department and other duties as assigned.
Hours
40 hours per week, flexibleESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assist in the coordination of construction projects and monitor construction of roadway reconstruction, mill and overlay, concrete, and various other City projects.
- Assist in the performance of regular environmental and water quality sampling and reporting.
- Assist in project record keeping and updating of the City’s as-builts.
- Assist in the development and management of the City’s asset management plan, including asset inventory and condition surveys.
- Assist with review and approval of permit applications and inspection of work conducted in the City’s right-of-way.
- Support and enforce City policies, procedures, operations, and safety rules.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of civil engineering.
- Knowledge of drafting techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of GIS systems.
- Ability to make accurate mathematical computations and utilize formulas associated with the engineering profession.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.
- Ability to express oneself, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of techniques, practices, equipment, materials and procedures associated with street and municipal utility related construction and maintenance.
- Knowledge of the use of surveying equipment.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities for completing assigned work.
- Ability to courteously and effectively interface with the public.
- Ability to keep and maintain accurate records.
A combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of two years completion of college-level coursework in an accredited Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Engineering Technology program or equivalent.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE
Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license and safe driving habits.

Must have the ability to:
1. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
2. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend, stoop, reach, manipulate doors, windows, drawer and locks.
3. Ability to sit, talk, and listen for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
