What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pool Supervisor position at City of Richfield, MN?
Under the general supervision of the Facility Manager, reporting directly to a Recreation Supervisor, supervises the daily operation of the outdoor municipal pool and waterslide; maintains a properly staffed, clean and safe facility and is accountable for daily receipts and problem solving.
HOURS
Hours will range from 30-40 hours per week. Schedule will include some evenings and
weekends, between 5:45 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
The pool will be open June 6 – August 20, 2025. Hours will vary, 28-40 hours per week. Schedule includes days and evenings Monday through Sunday. This position is seasonal in nature and therefore is a temporary position.
Overtime is paid for all hours worked in excess of 48 hours.SEASONAL INCENTIVE
A $100 completion incentive will be given at the end of the season to employees who have had a successful season and completed at least 100 hours of work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provide adequate staffing of facility.
- Develop orientation and in-service training outlines and topics.
- Supervise the work performance of staff; assist in correcting areas needing improvement and complete written evaluations prior to end of season.
- Schedule staff, monitor staff attendance, complete timecards and reduce staff as weather warrants.
- Review group reservation calendar, accident reports and water rescue reports.
- Prepare bank deposits, complete daily cash report and maintain accurate account of money for change.
- Monitor concession operation. Supervise staff in proper preparation and serving of concession items, monitoring product usage, keeping concession areas clean and products properly stored.
- Monitor the mechanical equipment and pool water. Complete daily pool log sheets, test water, maintain proper pool water level and inspect circulation, chemical and filter equipment.
- Provide quality customer service and address customer concerns. Assist patrons with questions, enforce rules and policies, explain reasons for policies and resolve patron complaints.
- Ensure patron safety. Enforce rules and policies with swim teams.
- Maintain facility cleanliness. Inspect facility to ensure that bathrooms and changing rooms are clean, garbage emptied; debris and belongings are picked-up from the deck, picnic and concession areas. Check that bathhouse is cleaned and disinfected at closing.
- Maintain records and complete reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- At least one (1) year post-secondary education
- At least two (2) seasons working within an aquatic environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in recreational programming or facility operations.
- American Red Cross lifeguard/CPR/FirstAid/AED certification
- At least one (1) season as a lifeguard.
- Customer Service experience
- Previous supervisor experience is desired.
- Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, or other non-English language prevalent in the City of Richfield
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid, CPR and AED certification card.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed for considerable physical activity such as to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment. Requires ability to work in the heat and sun.
The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have the ability to:
- Stand, walk, kneel, sit, crouch, twist, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, squat and lift materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 lbs.
- Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or by telephone and radio.
- Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or to operate safety equipment.
