What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance/Trades Temporary Assignment position at City of Richmond?
This position is established for a specific period of time and falling into the category of either short term, seasonal, pool, provisional, grant-funded or emergency. The intent of this position is to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill short term trades and maintenance needs in various capacities throughout the City.Duties are specific to the needs of the department. Maintenance Worker
Provides trades specific duties to include:
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS: Working conditions may include exposure to travel to other locations within the City of Richmond as well as outside of the City of Richmond; exposure to hazardous physical conditions such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, etc.; atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, and poor ventilation; inadequate lighting; intense noise; and environmental hazards such as disruptive people, imminent danger, and a threatening environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, see, and hear. The employee is frequently required to crawl, reach extending hands and arms in any direction, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger (pick, pinch, type or otherwise work primarily with fingers), grasp applying pressure to an object with fingers or palm, talk, feel, and use substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Maintenance Worker
- Maintains grounds including cutting lawn, trimming branches, removing debris; conducts equipment maintenance such as service requests. Provides routine and heavy cleaning tasks. Provides minor repairs. Assists skilled trade staff by performing supporting tasks. Operates a variety of machines and equipment. Handles traffic control, as needed. Assists with snow and ice removal.
- Collects, clears, and picks up debris and trash from designated spaces.
- Assists with various events, including event set-up and tear-down.
- Performs facility checks and inspections, if applicable.
- Assists citizens as needed.
Provides trades specific duties to include:
- Cleaning and performing preventative maintenance
- Performing scheduled inspections
- Troubleshooting and making repairs;
- Preparing and completing work orders;
- Following all safety policies and procedures.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Associate's Degree preferred
- Five years of progressive experience in the assigned technical field
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department ) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire may be required
- Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
- Some positions in tree maintenance require ISA certification (International Society of Arboriculture) and pesticide certification
- Related trades journeyman cards and or licenses
- Positions in hazardous materials require certification for handling refrigerants
