General Definition of Work
Performs professional work coordinating with various departments, boards, vendors, and local businesses, planning and implementing community program/activities, promoting special events, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator.

Essential Functions
Manages event/programs; coordinates use of various department and community resources, including buildings, facilities, volunteers, and partnerships.
Organizes and implements programs and events, including community festivals, tournaments, competitions, performances, and other activities.
Researches social, cultural, and recreational needs of the community.
Maintains the Richmond Parks and Recreation website and social media.
Conducts marketing and outreach for Richmond Parks and Recreation events and services, including designing brochures/fliers, social media outlets and preparing new releases and public announcements.
Maintains regular communication with Parks & Recreation, offering technical assistance and on-site leadership as needed.
Conducts and attends meetings, seminars to promote special events, programs, and activities.
Provides recommendations on interviewing, hiring, providing training; assigns, leads, and inspects the work of staff; assists in coaching, counseling, and evaluating staff performance; develops staff schedules; supervises interns and volunteers.
Researches and writes grants for Richmond Parks and Recreation events, projects, and improvements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of park and recreation program development, community engagement, and event coordination; working knowledge and experience with social media platforms; working knowledge of the principles, rules, techniques, materials, and equipment required for a variety of special events and recreational activities; skilled in grant writing; skill in the use of personal computers; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; ability to work independently and problem solve; experience managing volunteers/interns, building partnerships, and maintaining relationships with community organizations; ability to organize information and events and handle confidential data with professional discretion; ability to work on evenings and weekends as necessary and to travel to vendors; ability to conduct short and long term planning; ability to supervise, coordinate, direct, and train the work of staff; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, department heads and management, other departments, outside agencies, vendors, and the general public.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in recreation, event management, communications, or related field and moderate experience with public relations, marketing, recreational activities, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This works requires moderate physical effort with the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to extreme heat (non-weather) and occasionally requires working near moving parts, working high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Special Requirements
Valid driver's license in the State of Indiana.
Must stand, walk, and move around event venues for extended periods.
Must work outdoors in various weather conditions.
