This is an exempt position.
SUMMARYPerforms difficult skilled work in supervision of a number of crews engaged in maintenance or construction projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversees and delegates field supervision
Ensures project conformance to work plans and orders
Monitors internal projects and outside contractors for conformance to set standards and procedures
Coordinates and schedules equipment and work flow for maximum efficiency
Works with other City departments, business, agencies, and other governments concerning joint projects
Accounts for department inventory and ensures preventative maintenance of equipment
Provides training and instruction to subordinates as required
Prepares and submits detailed reports and records
Assists in the preparation of the department budget
Works on the project site and gives advice and assistance to crew
Receives and handles complaints and accident reports
May operate heavy and light equipment in snow removal
Assumes duties of Maintenance Superintendent as needed
May be required to wear some type of respiratory protection in the performance of their duties
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises several skilled and unskilled crews engaged in maintenance and construction operations within assigned department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); five or more years related experience and/or training in skilled maintenance or construction work and supervisory experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare plans and detailed reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
