The City of Roanoke is seeking a CCTV Technician for the Stormwater Utility Division within Public Works. This role is an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door with the City while gaining valuable experience in infrastructure maintenance and stormwater management.
What You’ll Do:Operate closed-circuit television (CCTV) equipment to inspect and assess stormwater infrastructure, including manholes, pipes, and flow conditions.
Gather and report critical inspection data, including utility conflicts, casting and cover conditions, and site characteristics.
Assist with pipe cleaning and repair operations as needed.
Read and interpret site plans for new stormwater infrastructure projects.
Communicate with contractors and citizens to provide information about work being performed.
Follow strict safety protocols to ensure a secure work environment.
Step into a leadership role in the absence of the Crew Leader.
Operate and assist with various hand tools and heavy equipment, including street sweepers, flusher trucks, sewer cleaners, skid steers, dump trucks, front-end loaders, excavators, and backhoes.
Support snow removal, special events, and emergency response tasks, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
High school diploma or GED and 1-3 years of experience in storm drain maintenance, street maintenance, operating heavy construction equipment, or performing heavy manual labor. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
Ability to operate and assist with CCTV stormwater inspection equipment and other relevant tools.
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and adapt to changing priorities.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 12 months of employment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training in the trades area assigned; or equivalent combination of education and experience.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
REASONING ABILITY

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Depending on area of assignment, may require possession of a valid appropriate driver's permit issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and/or a valid appropriate Class A, B or C commercial driver's license with specific endorsements depending on departmental requirements. May require Pesticide Registered Technician Certification.
