What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician II - Stormwater Green Infrastructure position at City of Roanoke, Virginia?
The City of Roanoke is looking for a dedicated professional to serve on Stormwater's Green Infrastructure team to help maintain our city’s green spaces and stormwater systems. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating heavy machinery, and contributing to the well-being of the community.
What You’ll Do:Operate Ventrac and other commercial mowing equipment to maintain city flood lots, best management practices (BMPs), and various other public spaces.
Use heavy motorized equipment for stormwater construction maintenance projects and right-of-way upkeep.
Work with a variety of construction and landscaping tools, including tractors, mowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, plate compactors, and tillers.
Perform basic equipment maintenance and minor repairs to keep machinery in top condition.
Assist with snow removal, special events, and emergency response tasks, including occasional nights and weekends.
Maintain accurate log sheets and checklists to ensure compliance and efficiency.
Earn required certifications, including a Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator license and a Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement (must be obtained within 12 months of hire).
A high school diploma or GED and 1-3 years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in operating heavy and light construction equipment in a professional setting.
A team player with a strong work ethic who takes pride in keeping Roanoke’s public spaces safe and well-maintained.
Willingness to work in all weather conditions and adapt to changing priorities as needed.

Salary : $35,975 - $41,371
