The City of Roanoke is seeking a Green Infrastructure Technician to help maintain our city’s flood lots, stormwater facilities, and public spaces. This role offers a great opportunity to build a career in public works while preserving and improving Roanoke’s green infrastructure.
What You’ll Do:Operate Ventrac and other commercial mowing equipment to maintain City flood lots, stormwater best management practices (BMPs), and public landscapes.
Perform stormwater construction maintenance, including grading, seeding, sodding, mulching, aeration, and general site improvements.
Repair and renovate stormwater management facilities to ensure proper function and aesthetics.
Conduct minor repairs and servicing on equipment to keep machinery in top condition.
Operate heavy and light equipment for tasks such as mowing, grading, and material handling.
Support snow removal, special events, and emergency response efforts, including some nights and weekends.
Maintain accurate records, including log sheets, checklists, and pre-trip inspections.
Obtain required certifications, including Registered Technician Pesticide Applicator and Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement (must be acquired within 12 months of hire).
High school diploma or GED and 1-3 years of experience in landscaping, stormwater management, construction, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Experience operating heavy and light motorized equipment for landscaping or construction projects.
A strong work ethic and commitment to environmental stewardship.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
Willingness to obtain necessary certifications and grow within the role.
