POSITION DESCRIPTION
AccessABLE Rec. Afterschool Program Assistant

Nature of Work
This is a temporary/seasonal position that supports individuals ages 8-21 diverse cognitive abilities in various programs. Candidates will assist, engage, and supervise participants with indoor and outdoor activities such as crafts, games, swimming, ice skating, exercise, and other recreational activities.
Schedule:

Afterschool Program Assistant -will work primarily with the afterschool program at the Recreation Center
- Schedule: Monday-Friday during the school year. There will be no work on non-school days. Hours range from 2:30-5:30 PM

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage, interact, encourage, and supervise participants in activities.
- Attend required meetings and trainings related to the job.
- Ensure proper use of equipment, facilities, property, and supplies.
- Follow behavioral, communication, and medical plans of each participant.
- Follow directions, employment policies, and protocols.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Demonstrate the ability to be flexible, creative, and patient.
- Ability to take instruction and work cooperatively in a team setting.
- A positive and fun attitude.
- Physically capable of participating in a wide range of outdoor activities in warm weather.
- Ability to act in a professional and courteous manner when dealing with participants, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Experience performing similar work.
- Work with children who have autism.
- Experience or interest in working with people who have developmental, intellectual, and/or physical disabilities.
- Background or interest in special education, recreation therapy, or related field.
