AccessABLE Recreation Program Leader

Nature of Work
The AccessABLE Recreation Program Leader will lead recreational activities enriching the social development and experience of individuals with diverse cognitive abilities. This is a temporary/seasonal position working with youth attending summer day camps. Duties include leading and mentoring staff, coordinating camp activities, and assisting and engaging with participants.
Schedule: From June-August on Monday-Thursday from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM, with occasional other hours as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead recreational programs and direct staff to ensure program participation meets expectations.
- Train other staff to implement the goals of the program.
- Interact with program participants to foster an enjoyable recreation program.
- Promote positive social skills, independence, and physical activity for participants.
- Assist the Recreation Coordinator with the creation and coordination of activities.
- Engage with participants to exercise, play games, and do crafts.
- Work within a team to provide support to each other and to participants.
- Adhere to safety practices involving staff and participants.
- Follow prescribed record keeping procedures, including incidents.
- Communicate with supervisor, other staff, participants’ families, and community members in a professional and courteous manner to share information, provide feedback, and to problem solve as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma and 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
Desirable Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Special Education, Human Services, or a related field.
- Experience with recreation programming.
