General Description
This position is responsible for the safe operation of an aquatic facility or beach. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a pool supervisor or other high level recreation staff member. Supervision is exercised over seasonal employees. Related work is performed as required.
CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION.
Typical Work Activities
- Supervises aquatic and recreation staff members assigned to an aquatic facility or beach;
- Evaluates subordinates performance issuing commendations and reprimands where appropriate;
- Oversees the opening and closing procedures associated with assigned swimming facility;
- Schedules staff coverage and water testing at assigned sites;
- Coordinates swim lessons and special events such as swim meets;
- Maintains a file of staff certifications; Prepares and keeps narrative and numerical reports;
- May stand watch or patrol swimming pool or beach, keeping bathers within bounds and going to their aid when they are in difficulty;
- Maintains order and compliance by enforcing pool or beach rules;
- Administers first aid and CPR as required;
- Ensures that the proper emergency rescue equipment is readily accessible and well maintained.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D AND Four (4) months experience supervising lifeguards and providing instruction to swimmers at all levels.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Lifeguard, and Water Safety Instructor Certifications or equivalent certifications as recognized by the New York State Department of Health.
