What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Camp Supervisor position at City of Rochester (NY)?
This is a year-round position responsible for the daily operation of summer and after-school programs for youth. The incumbent in this position instructs and leads a wide variety of recreation and educational activities offered by the department. The Youth Camp Supervisor exercises direct supervision over part-time, seasonal, and/or volunteer staff. Indirect supervision is received from a higher level staff person. Related work is performed as required or directed.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
- Completes application and reporting requirements for a certified out-of-school time programs through The Office of Children and Family Services and Monroe County;
- Liaisons with community agencies and educational institutions to support program needs and initiatives;
- Coordinates and completes necessary paperwork for the summer camp and after school camp meals program and FoodLink meals program;
- Oversees daily operations, staffing and supervision, and scheduling;
- Conducts relevant professional development and trainings for staff;
- Plans, implements and evaluates long-term and daily camp/after school scheduling including positive youth development programming, special events and field trips;
- Provides coverage for staff absences;
- Oversees camp/after school application and registration process, participant records, and payments;
- Develops and implements marketing campaign including use of print and other media, community outreach, and regular contact with parents;
- Develops and enforces camp/after school code of behavior for participants;
- Administers emergency first aid as necessary;
- Requisitions supplies and equipment as necessary for program;
- Participates in departmental development and programmatic activities as directed.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or closely related field PLUS two (2) years full-time experience working with children which included one year in a supervisor capacity; OR
- Children’s Program Administrator Credential (CPAC) awarded by the NY State Association for the Education of Young Children PLUS two (2) years full-time experience working with children which included one year in a supervisor capacity; OR
- Three (3) years full-time experience as described in Section 1 above.
