What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Assistant - Golf - Limited Term position at City of Rochester?
Work Schedule:
Work schedules vary and include weekends and early morning/evening hours.
Positions Available:
We will have one Recreation Assistant assigned to each golf course, plus an additional individual hired to work at Hadley Creek to help run the operations of our First Tee Program.
Pay Rate:
$27.16/hour, depending on qualifications/experience.
Limited Term Appointment:This is a limited-term position that is available until October 31, 2025, and is contingent upon the availability of allocated funds, as well as favorable performance by the incumbent. At the end of this time, the position will be eliminated unless the City elects ongoing continuation.
Most candidates will begin on or around March 20th!Customer Service
- Interact with program participants and guests and provides information on facilities and programs in a manner that will assure the highest possible level of guest service.
- Assist the recreation program leaders with management and supervision of programs. This includes providing hands-on support for the programs and filling in at locations as needed.
- Assist with the management and supervision of program staff including communications and scheduling.
- Assist the Recreation Supervisor with the planning and management of seasonal recreational facilities
- Follow prescribed cash handling and record keeping procedures.
- Assist with day-to-day department operations and office support.
- Utilize recreation management software to process registration and organize leagues and activities.
- Review and evaluate programs using surveys and other tools to measure performance and help inform any changes.
- Perform other duties as assigned or necessary
- Assist with the operations and scheduling for the First Tee Program.
- Work with outside vendors and consultants.
- Process registration fees and applications.
- Advertise the program to the public.
Education and Experience
HS Diploma or equivalent AND 3 years of experience performing administrative or customer service work.
Desirable Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Recreation Management or similar field
2 years of experience working in recreation or sports industry.
Experience working at a golf course performing golf operations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: sports and the rules and regulations (specifically golf, basketball, volleyball, softball, and kickball); other recreation programs; administrative and management practices.
Skill in: providing excellent customer service; communicating with participants and guests in-person, on the phone and via email; handling cash transactions and the use of simple accounting.
Ability to: deal tactfully with the general public and program participants in person, on the phone and via email; and understand and carry out oral and written assignments; handle frequent interruptions; establish effective working relationships; follow instruction and prescribed procedure.
