GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
Supervise all tasks and personnel in Parks Maintenance Division. Does all related work as required. This is a mid-level management position. The Parks Maintenance Superintendent works under the general supervision of the Public Works Director or designee who establishes major objectives and reviews work for results obtained. Responsible for the supervision of all Parks Division maintenance staff. Prioritizes, outlines and assigns projects and reviews completion of work assigned.

- Manage division and supervise employees.
- Participate in employee hiring and training.
- Schedule, assign and monitor work; evaluate performance.
- Supervise and assign work for parks maintenance staff, including all daily park goals and objectives.
- Assist Public Works Director or designee in all administration functions of the division.
- Supervise maintenance of irrigation systems including pumps.
- Supervise maintenance of parks equipment and facilities.
- Coordinate and participate in encampment cleanups with law enforcement and code compliance officers.
- Work closely with Park and Recreation Program Manager to coordinate maintenance activities as related to planned park improvement projects, recreation programming and special events.
- Supervision of division expenditures and resources.
- Prepare recommended division budget.
- May design irrigation systems, landscaping improvements or other elements associated with park improvements.
- May provide input on design elements.
- Manage water spray park facility.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of Park operation and maintenance, procedures and practices; principles of landscaping, forestry and maintenance of sports fields and parks facilities.
- Considerable knowledge of operation and maintenance of irrigation systems; understanding of water rights and related requirements.
- Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of appropriate tools and heavy equipment; personnel and supervisory practices
- Knowledge of health and safety hazards and proper precautionary measures including PPE.
- Basic computer skills including email communications, word processing and spreadsheets.
- Ability to make material and personnel estimates, interpret plans and specifications, keep records and make reports.
- Ability to operate passenger vehicles and various motorized equipment.
- Ability to use various sizes and shapes of tools.
- Ability to produce documents and reports legibly.
- Ability to make decisions and explain policy.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education and experience requirements listed are minimum standards. Other equivalent combinations of education, certifications, training, and experience may be considered.
Education: Graduation from high school or completion of the equivalent GED certificate.
Experience: Three years supervisory experience as a crew lead, Superintendent or similar position.
Four years of responsible parks maintenance experience including tree, turf and irrigation systems and at least one year in a supervisory capacity.
Additional training in parks maintenance field.
Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which insures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS
Possess valid Oregon Driver's License, with acceptable driving record, at time of employment. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days.

While performing the duties of this job; work is performed both indoors in an office setting, with moderate noise levels and outside with a noise level and weather which may vary. May require work to be performed in a confined workspace. Requires the ability to climb various equipment including stairs and ladders. May require exposure to various chemical compounds, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes, dust and air contaminants, noxious weeds and odors. Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Requires the ability to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying supplies, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to moving vehicles and equipment.
