The GIS Technician provides entry-level geospatial support to the organization by leveraging the latest data management & curation techniques, cartographic skills and a sound understanding of industry standards for supporting web-based geospatial solutions.
Posted pay range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience.
- Performs updates to geographic data by using geospatial software & tools; employs cartographic skills to produce aesthetically sound maps, charts, and presentations for decision makers.
- Supports projects within a team environment, works with end-users to help create and improve their business workflows; identifies technological opportunities and contributes to betterment of systems.
- Under supervision from senior staff, assists in the geodata contributions to enterprise systems; Cityworks, ArcGIS, and their integrations. Evaluates current geospatial technologies and develops web-based, interactive mapping solutions.
- Provides geospatial support to various levels of end-users. Provides guidance and training to end-users when necessary; Adheres to QA/QC procedures and ensures department geospatial needs are being met.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certificate from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Engineering, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of experience in a similar position may substitute for certificate.
- Valid Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
