The City of Russellville is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of City Planner.
Job Overview:
The City Planner is responsible for guiding the growth and development of Russellville in alignment with the Master Plan and zoning, subdivision, and floodplain regulations. Utilizing sound planning principles, the Planner will perform current planning and zoning administration functions, serving as the primary staff liaison to the Planning Commission and City Council. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing physical, developmental, and socioeconomic characteristics of areas for planning purposes.
- Conducting background research, site evaluations, and employing analytical techniques to develop and present staff reports and recommendations on planning and zoning issues.
- Engaging in regular interaction with the public, as well as coordinating with the Public Works/Engineering Department, Code Enforcement, Fire Department, and Legal Department.
This position reports directly to the Mayor.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of three years of planning and development experience (a Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for part of the required experience).
- Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred.
- Possession of a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
- A combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or similar analytical and visualization tools.
