Performs emergency medical services and other functions of emergency services; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Fire/EMS Battalion Chief, Captain, or Senior Firefighter/Paramedic.
Essential Functions
- Responds to emergency fire, medical related and hazardous materials situations; provides medical care and rescue services; maintains equipment and facilities; continues training and instruction; performs emergency medical duties.
- Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires, including medical, rehab and cleanup;
- Responds to emergency medical calls, operates equipment and transports victims to emergency care facility;
- Examines and evaluates patient's medical condition to determine appropriate treatment and life saving procedures;
- Provides patient care and administers advanced life support techniques and treatment;
- Communicates descriptive patient information to authorized emergency room personnel, to obtain orders for administering advanced procedures; makes presentations on emergency services for interested parties;
- Assists in maintaining all apparatus and equipment and cleaning fire station and grounds;
- Participates in continuing training and instruction program, by individual study of technical material and attendance at scheduled drills and classes;
- Inspects, cleans and maintains medical equipment and all other related equipment; May serve as relief driver and equipment operator if qualified;
- Conducts station tours and provides school demonstrations; and performs related tasks as required.
