What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carpenter position at City of San Diego?
- Employees in job classifications represented by AFSME Local 127 are scheduled to receive the following general wage increase: 5% effective 7/1/25
- Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
- Carpenter employees may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Carpenter employees must furnish their own hand tools. Power tools will be supplied by the City.
- Successful completion of a state-accredited four-year Carpenter Apprenticeship Program.
- Four years of full-time experience in all phases of work as a journey-level Carpenter. Qualifying experience MUST include three of the following: Shop and mill work; interior finish work; exterior covering and finish work; or foundation, form construction and framing work. At least two years of qualifying experience MUST be in commercial and/or industrial carpentry.
- Experience in residential carpentry work only is NOT qualifying.
- City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
- Proof of apprenticeship completion, if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
- For City of San Diego employees, proof of Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA), if utilized to meet the minimum requirements.
