The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating, and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. Salary Information:
The Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) part-time unbenefited Undergraduate/Graduate Student Intern in the Transportation & Hydraulics Services Division, Master Planning Section.
Salary ranges for this classification are:
- Undergraduate Student Intern: $15.32 - $21.88 per hour (unbenefited)
- Graduate Student Intern: $19.82 – $29.27 per hour (unbenefited)
These salary ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.
About the Transportation & Hydraulics Services Division Internship:
The Master Plan Section is responsible for evaluating the City’s sanitary and storm sewer systems, developing hydrologic and hydraulic computer models, identifying and prioritizing capacity improvement projects, and preparing system-wide capacity assurance plans and master plans.
The Master Plan intern will assist with the expansion and update of H&H computer models, including research of construction plans and manhole survey to input accurate pipe diameters, inverts, and slopes. The student intern will have the opportunity to learn about master planning, computer modeling, hydraulics, and GIS.
The salary ranges for these classifications:
Student Intern Salary Range - $15.27 - $21.66/hourly (unbenefited)
Graduate Student Intern Salary Range - $19.62 - 28.98/hourly (unbenefited)
This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.
Graduate Student Intern: Completion of a bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a master’s degree program from an accredited college or university.
Licenses & Certificates: Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing the operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California may be required for some positions.
The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies, as demonstrated in past and current employment history. Desirable qualifications for this position include:
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in undergraduate or graduate program.
- Knowledge and ability to use computers and software applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others.
