Transportation & Hydraulics Services (THS) Division, Roads & Bridges Section- Student Intern

The Department of Public Works is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects for a wide variety of City facilities and infrastructure, maintaining City facilities and fleet assets, facilitating, and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services. Duration of Assignment:
Approximately 12 weeks starting June 2025.

Salary Information:
The Public Works Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) part-time unbenefited Undergraduate/Graduate Student Intern in the Transportation & Hydraulics Services (THS) Division, Roads & Bridges Section.

Salary ranges for this classification are:

• Undergraduate Student Intern: $15.32 - $21.88 per hour (unbenefited)
• Graduate Student Intern: $19.82 – $29.27 per hour (unbenefited) 

These salary ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

About the THS Division, Roads & Bridges Section Internship:

The Roads & Bridges Section is responsible for delivering a wide variety of capital improvement projects, including federally funded and FEMA recovery projects.

The Roads & Bridges intern will be assigned to assist with the following projects: 10211 – Balbach Park Transportation Improvements, 10026 – Downtown Better Bikeways Hardscape Conversion-STPL-5005(169), 10464 – San Pedro Bollards Improvements, 10451 – Ocala Avenue Median Improvements-HSIPSL-5005(176), and 10453 – Tamien Transportation Improvements.

The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies, as demonstrated in past and current employment history. Desirable qualifications for this position include:

• Enrolled as a Civil Engineering or Construction Management undergraduate/graduate student in an accredited college or university.

• Knowledge and ability to use computers and related applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe, Bluebeam, and AutoDesk softwares.

• Knowledge and ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules of quantities.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others.

• Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
