Assistant Pool Manager

Receives direction from the Recreation Director, Supervisor, and under the general supervision of the Pool Manager candidates selected for these positions will perform a variety of duties including but not limited to: organizing and conducting a well-balanced aquatic program at the Sanger City Pool, lifeguard during recreation swim hours, supervise pool deck, enforce regulations, supervise and schedule all pool personal, establish emergency procedures for the staff, assist with pool maintenance, attend staff meetings and service training programs, and perform other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Completion of 10^th grade.
Minimum Age:16 years
Experience: At least 1 year of experience in lifeguarding or aquatic managerial positions.
Certification: Prior to start of program employee must possess a valid:

• CPR Certificate
• First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or similar agency.
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate, YMCA Life guarding Certificate or other nationally recognized lifeguarding certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must remain in the pool area at all times.
• Must be able to remain alert with no lapses of consciousness in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher and exposure to full sunlight.
• Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time in a warm pool environment.

Note:   This position is a seasonal summer position. Work schedule will be flexible but may include weekends, evenings, and/or early mornings.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential job functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
• Supervise pool deck and ensure that all pool patrons obey the facility rules
• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service
• Attend in-service training sessions and other meetings as required
• Assist in the inspection of the facility, equipment and supplies
• Assist in the opening and closing of the facility
• Be alert for hazardous situations when guarding your area and report violations to the Pool Manager
• Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and healthy manner, and that any play and work areas are clean and free of all safety hazards
• Assist with cleaning of bathrooms and concession stand area
• Perform other duties as assigned

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: 

• Basic child guidance principles and practices.
• Leadership techniques.
• General techniques of the various swim strokes.
• Effective supervision of youth activities and programs.
• Oral and written communications skills.
• CPR and emergency medical procedures.
• Lifeguarding, surveillance, and rescue techniques.

Ability to: 

• Communicate effectively with children and adults.
• Plan and carry out assigned activities.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Be active, lift and/or carry equipment and supplies.
• Work in a leadership role with children and adults.
• Work harmoniously with fellow employees and the public.
