Join the City of Santa Clara’s Team as Capital Projects Program Manager!

The City of Santa Clara is excited to invite strategic leaders to apply for the role of Capital Projects Program Manager (Deputy City Manager). This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead in executing and delivering infrastructure and facilities improvement projects for our vibrant city.

In November 2024, voters approved Measure I, a $400M general obligation bond dedicated to addressing the City’s most critical infrastructure needs. The funds will help revitalize aging fire stations, stormdrain systems, and aquatic facilities—investing in the very foundations of Santa Clara’s growth and resilience. With this major boost, you’ll help bring to life a comprehensive Expenditure Plan that includes exciting projects in areas such as:

  • Fire Stations and Emergency Response ($142.2M)
  • Parks, Libraries, Senior Centers, and Aquatics Facilities ($115.3M)
  • Stormdrain System Improvements ($46M)
  • Police Facilities ($43.9M)
  • Streets and Transportation ($41.2M)
  • Historic Buildings and Beautification ($9.2M)

As Capital Projects Program Manager you’ll have the opportunity to lead multiple complex, city-wide capital projects that directly impact the community. You'll thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment where collaboration is key. Your expertise in project management will drive the coordination between internal teams, external stakeholders, and consultants to deliver high-quality infrastructure improvements that are on-time, on-budget, and built to last.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the implementation of key infrastructure projects across the city, from fire stations to stormdrain upgrades, ensuring that every project aligns with Santa Clara's vision for a sustainable and thriving future.
  • Work closely with a diverse team of departments, managing project objectives, priorities, schedules, and budgets.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the City Council, ensuring transparency and demonstrating the value of each initiative.
  • Drive the successful execution of projects, maintaining a focus on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality.

The Ideal Candidate: We’re looking for a visionary leader who thrives in managing large-scale projects with the ability to think strategically and lead with confidence. You should be a master of communication, able to engage and inspire internal and external stakeholders. Your experience in capital project management should include overseeing multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring high-quality outcomes and driving results.

Key qualities include:

  • Leadership: You have a visionary mindset to achieve tangible, impactful results.
  • Strategic Thinking: You possess a big-picture mindset and can make critical decisions that align with long-term goals.
  • Collaboration: You work seamlessly with various departments, consultants, and community organizations to achieve shared success.
  • Political Savvy & Customer Service: You can skillfully navigate the political landscape, while effectively balancing customer needs, and ensuring both efficiency and satisfaction.
  • Exceptional Communication: You are persuasive, transparent, and can effectively convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.

This is your chance to shape the city’s future and leave a lasting legacy of improved infrastructure and facilities for generations to come.  Apply now and be a key player in building a better Santa Clara!
