This position under the Capital Improvement Projects division is primarily responsible for the design and construction of new projects and infrastructure maintenance projects. This position under the Engineering Services division is primarily responsible for reviewing construction plans, performing field inspections, and administering contracts.

- Acts as project manager overseeing infrastructure and public facilities capital improvement projects; prepares requests for proposals; writes specifications; prepares cost estimates; oversees the bid process; negotiates and administers contracts; ensures compliance with grant funding requirements; conducts public meetings
- Develops and maintains accurate project records for the division
- Advises consulting engineers of City requirements during the design; conducts plan reviews for capital improvement projects to ensure project compliance with City codes and design standards
- Investigates and resolves citizen complaints related to assigned capital improvement projects
- Researches, prepares, and presents reports on a variety of engineering matters related to capital improvement projects
- Oversees the research and compilation of engineering and construction documents in support of capital improvement projects; maintains accurate records for assigned projects
- Establishes positive working relationships with City employees, outside agencies, contractors, consulting engineers, and the public
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists developers, contractors, and members of the public during the design and construction stages and advises them on construction codes and City Ordinances and requirements
- Reviews preliminary development plans, including street improvement, sewer, storm drain, and grading plans; reviews geotechnical reports and parcel maps; ensures plans meet City requirements
- Performs field inspections to ensure developers and contractors are complying with City engineering standards and requirements
- Investigates and resolves questions and complaints pertaining to engineering services issues
- Administers contracts, including writing requests for proposals and preparing items for City Council review and approval
- Researches, prepares, and presents reports on a variety of engineering matters pertaining to engineering services
- Establishes positive working relationships with developers, contractors, City staff, and the public
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- One year of experience in professional engineering, surveying, construction project management, or related area
- Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered
- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer or Engineer-in-Training issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers is desirable
- A valid Class C California driver license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related functions
