The City of Santa Clarita has multiple part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) positions available in the Arts and Events division. Under the leadership of full-time City event planners, this position will assist in the production of various community and regional events through the year. Hours for these positions will vary throughout the year, with some weeks being 15 or more hours and some weeks where there are no events, and therefore, no hours. The successful candidate must have flexibility to work a variety of hours/days, including weekdays (particularly Thursdays), weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assists in the production of local community events including the Cowboy Festival, 4th of July Fireworks, monthly Senses block parties, monthly Celebrate cultural series, Concerts in the Park, and many others • Performs a variety of equipment set up by securing cords or banners to fixtures, setting large equipment pieces such as truss, stage, canopies, and dance floors, and placing tables and chairs for event booths and audiences • Operates City vehicles to load or unload, transport and deliver equipment to various worksites • Organizes warehouse and takes inventory of event supplies and equipment • Provides information to event attendees and works event booths • Provides technical assistance for stage lighting and sound for various events, as needed • Performs other duties as assigned by Arts and Events Coordinator and/or Supervisor• High school diploma or GED equivalent • One year of experience in event organization or other related experience • A valid Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions is highly desirable • Prior event production and lighting/sound equipment experience is highly desirable • Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary will be considered • Positive, team-oriented, self-motivated, and enthusiastic • Ability to communicate effectively and positively, both orally and in writing • Strong team player and the ability to work both independently and as part of a work group • Ability to maintain professionalism and exhibit good judgement in difficult situations • Strong work ethic, proactive, and the ability to learn quickly • Creative problem-solving skills • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner • Ability to follow proper safety protocol and pay strict attention to safety at all times • Ability to lift, drag, and push files and equipment weighting 50 pounds or more • Flexibility to work a variety of days/hours An online completed City application form is required to apply for this position. As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need. In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment. In compliance with California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. PTS workers are at-will.
