Evidence/Property Technician

Salary Range: $46,000 - $52,000.

Satellite Beach Police Department

This position directly receives, documents, secures, preserves, and eventually disposes of a wide range of evidence and property items. This position is cross trained to serve as backup to the agency’s records function as needed.

The position involves extensive, detailed clerical and record keeping work, with responsibility for tasks unique to the police evidence and property function. The position is responsible for the absolute safeguarding of all evidence and property items in the care and control of the agency. Tasks include records maintenance, data collection and other administrative duties. Some work is performed with minimal direct supervision and independent judgement is required. The ability to preserve and protect all items from contamination, degradation, or tampering and to ensure proper chain of custody for the successful prosecution of defendants in court are absolute essential requirements of this position. The security of evidence and property under the control of this position is continuously reviewed through routine audits, inspections and observations, to confirm compliance with all laws, policies and procedures. Provide supplemental assistance in the agency’s Records Unit when needed, to include answering the telephone, front desk customer service, processing files, accident reports, citations, and arrests with the appropriate agencies, criminal history research, and releasing records to the public in compliance with Department Directives, accreditation standards and state laws; related tasks as required.

Some items of evidence/property may possess potential biological and chemical contamination hazards and require specialized training, which is provided by the agency through initial and ongoing advanced courses.

Due to the nature of this work, the ability to successfully pass an extensive background check is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduation or equivalent diploma from an institution accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Dept. Of Education or licensed as a degree granting institution by the Commission for Independent Education.
• Three (3) years' responsible experience in Criminal Justice records management, Law Enforcement, inventory control, or related field preferred.

· Add the FCIC/NCIC certification bullet point to the Evidence Tech.

• Must possess a valid Florida driver's license
• Consideration for this position requires an extensive background including polygraph examination and credit check
