What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Part-Time - WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR position at City of Satellite Beach?
JOB SUMMARY: Under close supervision, assumes the responsibility to provide swim lesson instruction to youth of all ages and abilities, following Red Cross’ Youth Swim Program for Preschool levels 1-3 and Learn to Swim levels 1-6; enforce pool rules; and performs other related duties, as assigned.
SUPERVISION: Recreation Program Coordinator, Recreation Director
HOURS: Approximately 10-15 hours per week.
QUALIFICATIONS: American Red Cross certification in Water Safety Instruction (WSI), First Aid and CPR. Punctuality. Dependability – follow through. Attention to detail and ability to accept direction. Positive image and tidy appearance. Effective communication skills. Flexibility. Ability to interact with the Public. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course material effectively. Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe. Assess abilities of students to ensure each student is placed in the appropriate level. Be in the water, getting fully wet, with all classes. Guide swim assistants in the proper performance of instructor duties. Communicate regularly with participants and their parents in a professional manner, to ensure they are aware of progress. Refer any difficult situations to the manager. Ensure compliance with Satellite Beach Recreation Department policies and procedures. Correspond through written and verbal communications. Attend scheduled staff trainings and meetings.
