The City of Sausalito is seeking an empowering, motivated leader to fill the Public Works Supervisor role. The Public Work Supervisor is responsible for performing skilled and supervisory work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, storm drains, sewer lines, traffic safety systems, and building maintenance. In addition, the incumbent will provide supervisory maintenance and gardening work in the development, maintenance, and repair of parks, recreation facilities, trees, and landscaped areas. The selected candidate will assign and direct the work of a maintenance crew, landscape crew, and other maintenance personnel as assigned; to operate power drive equipment; to act in place of the Public Works Division Manager in their absence.
IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions in the work environment.
- Possess experience in supervising, motivating, training, guiding, and directing subordinates.
- Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking.
- Ensure that projects are completed efficiently, on time, and within budget.
- Possess a desire to improve the customer service experience will ensure efficient management of the day-to-day department and staff needs.
- Be able to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions, and establish positive relationships with colleagues, employees, the public, and other stakeholders.
- Shows compassion and integrity to fellow employees and the community.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience comparable to that of a Maintenance Worker II or Landscape Worker II for the City of Sausalito
License and certifications: Possession of an appropriate, valid Class B California driver’s license

Retirement: The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security. Classic employees – 2% @55 formula, highest 3-year average compensation PEPRA employees – hired after 1/1/13 or Classic employees who have experienced a 6- month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula, highest 3-year average compensation
Sick Leave: 96 hours of sick leave per year.
Vacation: Employees can earn 120 hours a year
Holidays: 11 authorized holidays per year, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time.
Education and Wellness Reimbursement: Employees may request reimbursement for $2,000 of approved education expenditures, $1,000 of that amount may be spent on selected wellness benefits and items.
Union Membership: This position is non-exempt and is part of the Service Employees’ International Union.
