Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual work of ordinary difficulty in the care, keeping, and beautification of all grounds, recreation facilities and athletic fields.

Essential Job Functions
- Prepares facilities for special events, including setting up meeting rooms, building stages, laying basketball courts,and setting up and breaking down show and event equipment.
- Cleans, repairs, and maintains grounds, play areas, facilities, and athletic fields; ensures aesthetically pleasing and fully functioning facilities and areas. Including litter removal, amenity repair and upkeep, as well as regular scheduled maintenance practices.
- Inspects, installs, repairs, and paints playground and park equipment; ensures safety of equipment for the public and addresses concerns quickly and efficiently.
- Performs tasks involving the use/maintenance of hand tools, power tools and equipment, and the operation/maintenance of City vehicles such as pickup trucks and small dump trucks.
- Operates athletic field maintenance related equipment including, but not limited to rollers, groomers, Utility vehicles, sod cutters, and sweeper.
- Assists other departments as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; with six months of experience in grounds and athletic field maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid driver's license.

- Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
- Knowledge of park and athletic facility maintenance techniques.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance techniques.
- Skill in the operation and care of such tools and equipment as power tools, athletic field tools, power washers, and vehicles.
- Ability to perform manual labor under varying climactic conditions.
- Ability to work with the public, leadership, and other City of Savannah employees.
- Ability to follow simple oral and written directions. As well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
