The City of Scottsdale is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Operations Supervisor at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. This is a dynamic and challenging role at one of Scottsdale’s signature parks, which welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors annually and generates over $2.8 million in revenue. In this role, you will lead a team of full-time staff responsible for key park operations, including attractions, concessions, the model train building, park museums, the Roundhouse, and special events. You will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing new ideas and events to enhance the park experience while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations and provide leadership to staff managing attractions, concessions, the Roundhouse, and special events
  • Develop and implement operational plans to improve efficiency and visitor experience.
  • Take a lead role in training new employees and ensuring adherence to safety and service standards.
  • Collaborate on new initiatives and event planning to drive business growth and community engagement.
  • Provide creative solutions to operational challenges in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Daily reconciliation and accounting processes.
  • Supervise and support City employees, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity.  The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $88,171.20/annually.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Three years of experience in a related field specific to the area of assignment.
  • Must have at least one year of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.  The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver’s licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Supervises employees and coordinates personnel-related activities to include, but not limited to training, approving work schedules, recommending/approving personnel actions, coaching and counseling, establishing performance goals, and writing performance evaluations.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises the day-to-day operations of a specific area of assignment, which includes, but is not limited to, monitoring projects, work orders, and assignments.
  • Assigns/reviews daily work, answers questions from staff, estimates time requirements for each task, allocates manpower, and coordinates staffing based on program and/or facility needs throughout the year.
  • Effectively and promptly communicates with various organizations and community groups to develop and coordinate activities/special events/systems.
  • Prepares, justifies, and monitors an annual budget(s) specific to an area of assignment.
  • Plans, creates, develops, implements, and monitors objectives through innovative management techniques.
  • Develops, implements, and enforces operational policies, procedures, and safety practices within a specific area of assignment.

PLEASE NOTE: Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
