Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a talented and motivated professional to work as a fully benefitted TERM LIMITED TEMPORARY (TLT) Senior Public/Cultural Program Specialist. This exciting program specialist position will join the Watershed Management Division, by providing event and program development to build visitor connectivity between the Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area (RLRA) and the Cedar River Watershed Education Center (CRWEC). This Term Limited Temporary (TLT) opportunity is expected to last approximately 2-years and is a fully benefitted temporary assignment.

  • Develops and implements plans for a sequence of major activities and events that support the public's and ratepayers' understanding about SPU's Water Line of Business, the Cedar River Watershed, and the utility in general.
  • Coordinates the integration of programs into appropriate activities of the Public Programs Section.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with community groups and provides expert event planning, administration and operational support in producing major cultural and educational programs/events.
  • Provides information on special events and programs to community organizations, the news media, other City departments, schools and other public agencies.
  • Identifies and recruits community groups, museums and other groups to develop cultural and educational programs.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Experience:  Two (2) years of experience in developing, planning and organizing public programs, recreational programs or cultural enrichment activities. 


EducationBachelor's degree in Fine Arts with coursework in theater and recreation, Engineering, Business Administration, Urban Planning, or similar fields of study such as Environmental Education.

Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience(s) will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.  

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with environmental learning programs
  • Progressive experience in integrating diverse content into programming such as environment, education and interpretation, equity, recreation, arts and culture
  • Commitment to race and social justice (diversity, equity and inclusion)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin/Cantonese, Vietnamese, Somali, Tagalog or other

The full salary range for this position is $45.74 per hour - $53.27 per hour.
