The Operations Section of the King County Solid Waste Division is inviting applications for a Term-limited Temporary (open to all) or Special Duty assignment (only available to King County Career Service employees) Inventory Purchasing Specialist I position to fill which will receive the same medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits as career service positions. It is an exciting opportunity for an Inventory Purchasing Specialist I! Each day will present a different challenge while you travel throughout King County working closely with many varying work groups at the Cedar Hills Landfill and Transfer Station located throughout King County. You will also have opportunities to grow your knowledge in SWD ordering systems and promotion opportunities to an Inventory Purchasing Specialist II or Inventory Purchasing Specialist III.
The responsibilities of this classification include maintaining specialized inventory. Duties also include stocking shelves, unloading trucks, cleaning the warehouse and picking up and delivering items.
About the Role: You will work closely with the Inventory Purchasing Specialist II and III to grow your knowledge of Solid Waste Stores and its daily operation, while also supporting the Transfer Stations and Cedar Hills Regional Landfill. Main focus to shuttle parts and supplies to the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill, Transfer Stations and other designated KCSWD locations while also dropping off and picking up parts from vendors throughout King County.

What You Will Be Doing:
Expedite parts delivery from multiple warehouses; pick up and deliver items as required.
Perform basic warehousing and stocking functions using material handling equipment, load and unload items and acknowledge receipt of goods and services.
Assist with physical inventory and cycle counting.
Assist in the storage and handling of hazardous materials.

Qualifications You Bring:
Knowledge of basic warehousing equipment and supplies
Knowledge of general office procedures and policies

Basic mathematics skills
Basic skills using a Personal Computer and modern technologies (i.e. software applications, laptops, smartphones, etc.) for timesheet entry, email communication, virtual training and meetings
Skill in operating forklift and other material handling equipment

Working Conditions:
Work Location: The work associated with this position will be located: SWD CHL Renton Shop, 201 SW 34th Street, Renton WA.
Work Schedule: This position works a 40-hour workweek, Monday - Friday and is overtime eligible with Supervisor approval.
Union Representation: This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117 - Joint Units Agreement (JUA).
Physical Environment/Requirements: The candidate must be able to work in a high traffic maintenance facility with possible adverse conditions such as noise and dust. The candidate must also have the ability to lift at least 50 lbs. at least once daily with or without assistance.
Required Licenses or Certifications: Valid Washington State Driver’s License upon hire and Forklift operator certification.
