The City of Shawnee's IT Department is a highly effective and customer service focused department that not only supports the day to day needs of all City staff, but partners with departments to accomplish their technological goals and priorities. This internship will provide an opportunity for a motivated and forward thinking individual to contribute to the team while gaining valuable experience for their future. This position involves direct contacts within the department, other City departments, the general public and private organizations. The hiring range for this position begins at $16 per hour for current college students, and $17.50 per hour for graduates of a Bachelor's program.
Position Responsibilities
Problem-Solving / Help Desk. Serves as the front line for technical issues reported by employees. Responsible for answering phone calls and responding to end user tickets in a timely and friendly manner. Responsible for the identification and resolution of problems with desktop hardware and software. Responsible for escalating to next level technical support as needed.
Computer Operations. Installs and maintains the City's computer systems, including Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Office 365, and Audio/Video systems.
Mobile Device Terminals (MDT). Installs, maintains, and monitors the City's Mobile Device Terminals (MDT's).
PC Build and Deployments. Responsible for deployment of new desktop hardware including traditional PC's, laptops and virtual desktops utilizing VMware Horizon View. Includes desktop image process and maintaining City desktop images.
Other Duties. Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.

This is a seasonal position and generally works 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), but may vary from 20 - 40 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university with major study in computer science, electronics, computer engineering or a closely related field.
- A technical understanding of internet, computer networks, personal computers, and equipment operations.
