What are the responsibilities and job description for the STREET MAINTENANCE GENERALIST position at City of Sherwood AR?
Operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of City streets, right of ways, storm drain, and street drainage projects.- Inspects and/or repairs street drainage systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and back-filling.
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in street, right of way, and street drainage construction and repair.
- Responds to complaints regarding leaks in pipes; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.
- Can lead a crew safely and efficiently on a project.
- Loads and unloads heavy objects.
- Rakes, vacuums, and bags leaves along with pine needles during the fall and winter months.
- Mows grass and cuts weeds using tractor and mower attachment, push mower, weed eater, sling blade or other appropriate hand tools.
- Assists in maintaining and repairing traffic control devices.
- Cross training/job rotation within the public works department.
- Ability to work successfully in extreme hot and/or extreme cold temperatures; excessive humidity; slippery and uneven walking surfaces, excessive noise, and other extreme conditions such as noxious fumes, moving heavy machinery, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.

- The employee must constantly lift and/or move up to 65 pounds and occasionally may be asked to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in street and utility work.
- Ability to effectively communicate on a one-on-one basis with others.
- Ability to maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with other employees, department officials and the public.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Ability to report to work each scheduled day, and on time.
