The City of Shoreview is accepting applications for two Forestry/Natural Resources Interns to assist the natural resources staff with the forestry program and other natural resource projects this summer. The primary project is to administer the emerald ash borer (EAB) treatment program.
Note: This position requires regular and reliable attendance, the ability to concentrate and manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions, good organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, self motivation, and the ability to work well with others.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Administer the city-run emerald ash borer (EAB) treatment program including assessing trees, providing quotes to property owners, and treating trees with chemical injection.
- Answer questions and share information with property owners about trees, diseases, and treatment.
- Maintain highly detailed records.
- Provide excellent customer service while communicating in-person, over the phone, and by email.
- Assist with routine rain garden maintenance and tree watering.
- Create and maintain detailed records in GIS.
- Assist with field and office inventory of assets with GPS equipment.
- Assist with other natural resources work and special projects as assigned.

- Enrollment in (or completion of) a degree or certificate program in forestry, natural resources, conservation/conservation biology, dendrology. environmental science, urban forestry, wildlife biology or closely related field.
- Must have, or be able to pass within 30 days of hire, the MN State Tree Inspector Exam.
- Must have, or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, a Certified Pesticide Applicator's License.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle report.
- Experience identifying trees and tree diseases.
- Currently certified Tree Inspector and/or Pesticide Applicator's license.
- Previous experience in customer service and working with the public.
- Experience using geographic information systems (GIS).
Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Wage: $19.00 per hour
