What are the responsibilities and job description for the Eng. Intern position at City of Shreveport?
This is the Engineer Intern level where incumbents will initially perform a variety of routine engineering tasks in a training status under closer supervision.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides project management services for the roadway and drainage capital projects for the City.
- Works with the design and construction of private development projects where infrastructure is donated to the City.
- Works with the City’s participation in the LA DOTD bridge inspection program.
- Provides technical assistance as needed, primarily to the Street and Drainage Division and the Permit Division.
- Works with the Standard Specifications, Standard Plans, Design Guides, etc.
- Assist with the operating and capital budgets for the Engineering division. Prepares the five year capital improvements budget for the division.
- Assist with the network of City survey benchmarks.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or ability to complete within 6 months.
- Floodplain Manager Certification through ASFPM or obtain certification within 2 years.
- Must have a driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds)
- May involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station, along with some combination of climbing and balancing; requires visual perception and discrimination; requires ability to communicate orally. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Tasks require infrequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
- Working around and with machinery having moving parts, heavy dust and loose particles.
- Working at heights and low areas. Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
Travel: Extensive travel and driving will be required locally from location to location to accomplish job assignments and visit job sites.

Salary : $5,590 - $8,909
