The Support Specialist I provides first-level support and technical assistance for users, systems, equipment and peripherals.Under the general supervision of the Senior Support Specialist, this position installs, modifies and makes minor repairs to company computer hardware/software systems, and provides technical advice and support to system user.
Must have sufficient technical knowledge and be able to communicate effectively to understand the problem and explain its solution. Must be highly motivated self-starter and provide quality customer support.
These duties and responsibilities include:
Environmental Factors: Tasks are regularly performed without but may be have some exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances

Any higher class or level for which eligible and qualified.

These duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide first-level support for business IT issues such as software or hardware break/fix, troubleshooting program and system errors or answering general IT related questions.
- Install hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers and disk drives on users' premises.
- Load appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components and office applications.
- Provide telephone, in-person and online support to end-users.
- Provide updates, status and completion information to managers and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person communication.
- Provide accurate and timely logging of problems and resolution for problems.
- Participate in ongoing personal training and attainment of technical certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or 2 years of experience in an IT support position. Any equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and networking.
- Analytical and problem solving skills.
- Aptitude for learning new technologies and maintaining professional and technical knowledge.
- Strong customer supports skills.
- Candidates with experience in municipal government strongly preferred
