Definition & Essential Functions

Under limited supervision, provides a variety of routine and complex administrative and technical support in the administration of City government for the Information Technology Department.
FLSA status: Non-Exempt.

Tasks

Specific Duties:

The IT Support Technician must have strong product knowledge of computer hardware, software and peripherals along with licensing requirements in order to perform day-to-day activities. The IT Support Technician is required to use independent judgment and initiative in performing day-to-day activities. The IT Support Technician performs tasks in customer service, computer installation, and inventory control. Tasks may include: assisting customers by providing quotes and budget requests for hardware, software, and peripherals.


General Duties
:
Responding to customer’s problems with hardware, software, and peripherals; receiving, preparing, and processing routine customer service requests for standard hardware and software;
Assisting IT Administrators by researching, coordinating, and installation for personal computer (PC) moves and installs;
Assisting IT Administrators in installing PCs to existing cabling;
Maintaining, auditing, and verifying data in the Asset Management System (example: recording proper information, verifying serial numbers on equipment, and updating records); Assisting Help Desk with trouble calls.

Administrative Duties:

Perform a variety of administrative duties included but not limited to: preparing correspondence, and other written communications; maintaining inventories and ordering materials, equipment, and supplies; processing invoices and approves for payment;

maintaining records and files; arranging and scheduling meetings and coordinating travel needs;

providing administrative support to the Chief Information Officer

Knowledges, Skills & Other Characteristics

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Current IT best practices and knowledge of or the ability to acquire a timely knowledge of City operations, functions, policies, and procedures
City operations, functions, policies, and procedures.
Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
A variety of computer software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation applications.
Department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
Information Technology Practices
SKILL IN:
Maintaining accurate information regarding components and configurations
Coordinating asset management with other City departments
Verifying the proper recording and filing of the original license for installed software
Scheduling installations, moves, cycle replacements, etc.
Creating and preparing installation sheets for configuration team and installers
Maintaining, updating, and creating databases and reports for asset management, inventory, and scheduling activities.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED is required.

Five (5) years experience in progressively responsible computer/technology work with a minimum of one (1) year being Information Technology related is required; OR An Associate's Degree and three (3) years of related experience with a minimum of one (1) year being Information Technology related is required.

  • Degree must be from an institution accredited as recognized by the U.S Department of Education as indicated in the Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

All employees are eligible to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation plan.

Vacation Employees earn twelve vacation days per year, available for use after six months, with increases to accrual rates in five-year service increments.

Additional Time Off/Sick Leave Employees earn twelve paid sick days per year for use after one month.
