This internship program is funded by the City of Sierra Vista Human Resources Part Time Internship account line and sponsored by the Tourism and Economic Development Department.
Under the general guidance of the Capital Improvement and Development Manager, the Engineering Department seeks an intern to perform technical work including engineering design, cost estimates, construction observation, plan review; and other duties as assigned.
FLSA status: Non-Exempt.

TASKS:
Knowledge of:
Basic principles and practices of communications.
English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Personal computer and software applications and other job-related software.
Excel, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and ArcGIS is recommended but not required.
Skill in:
Motivated self-starter able to work independently
Strong research and analytical skills
Strong written communication skillsHigh school graduate with a desire to pursue a career in Civil Engineering or enrolled in Junior College or University degree program in Civil Engineering.
Must possess valid AZ Driver’s License

TASKS:
- Assists in the design, analysis, and project management of Civil Engineering projects, including but not limited to: water, wastewater, roadway, traffic, hydrological, hydraulic, building,
- Review development plans
- Participates in field surveys and data collection activities to gather information necessary for project planning and design.
- Makes field inspections to ensure proper quality and quantity of work.
- Ensures adherence to safety standards.
- Prepares and reviews technical documents, reports, and presentations to ensure accuracy and compliance with project specifications and engineering standards.
- Assists in maintaining precise records regarding locations, inspections, observations.
- Collaborate with project managers and senior engineers in scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation to ensure project timelines and financial objectives are met.
- Assist with material testing and analysis to determine suitability for project applications and compliance with industry standards.
- Contribute to the development of safety plans and risk assessments for construction projects to ensure a safe working environment.
- Engage in community and stakeholder meetings to gather input, present project proposals, and address concerns related to engineering projects.
