What are the responsibilities and job description for the PART-TIME SUMMER INTERN - POLICE DEPARTMENT position at City of Sierra Vista?
This internship program is funded by the City of Sierra Vista Human Resources Part Time Internship account line and sponsored by the Tourism and Economic Development Department.
Under the general guidance of the Chief, the Sierra Vista Police Department seeks 3 interns to assist the Department in Records Management, Animal Control, and the Citizen Police Academy. The program will be 7-9 weeks long depending on the applicant’s availability to start, with no hours being scheduled the week of July 1-5. Interns may be scheduled for up to 20 hours per week.
FLSA status: Non-Exempt. Essential functions included in the job description may include tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. The list of tasks is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.TASKS:
Interns will have the opportunity to contribute by completing the following tasks depending on skills and interest in these areas. Applicants should either demonstrate significant interest and skill in a particular area or show some interest and skill in multiple areas.
Provide support to the records department and front desk
Assist with filing, shredding, answering phones, directing visitors, and customer service
Assist with animal shelter operations such as maintaining sanitary conditions
Assist with shelter adoption events
Assist with providing animal care which includes feeding, providing water, walking, relocation, assisting with the dispensing of medicines
Assist with the general care and maintenance of shelter equipment
Shadow department staff to meetings and other events as needed
Shadow department staff to meetings and other events as is relevant
Knowledge of:
-Basic office technology such as phones, computers, printers, copiers, fax machines
-Various computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
-Telephone and general office workplace etiquette
Ability to:
-Follow instruction and receive training
-Communicate with members of staff and the public
-Work in a team environment
-Learn quickly
-Perform work that requires frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, standing on feet for long periods while performing job duties
-May require lifting and carrying items weighing 40-60lbs.
High school student in good standing at time-of-assessment or currently enrolled in a university degree program such as Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Administration, Paralegal, or related fields.
Minimum age requirement 16 & up.
must possess a valid AZ Driver’s License
