The City of Signal Hill is looking for motivated individuals to join our Parks, Recreation and Library Services team!
Community Services Division
Plans, organizes and assists with coordinating city-wide special events, active adult (senior) programming including the Food Distribution Program, excursions, or Department approved special projects in addition to other duties, as assigned. This position also assists in training and supervision of other part-time/seasonal temporary employees and volunteers as necessary.
Essential Functions
- Organizes, develops, monitors, and schedules a wide range of on-site and off-site events and programs.
- Selects and negotiates contracts with vendors, instructors, or event groups.
- Responds effectively to program issues and citizen needs, requests, and inquiries from the general public and City staff.
- Maintains accurate, organized and complete records.
- Trains and coordinates the work of hourly and volunteer personnel.
- Performs a wide variety of routine office administrative duties to support the Community Services Department operations, including filing, preparing records and basic reports, accounts payable, and receive payments. Uses basic computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite, online recreation management software programs (i.e. CivicRec or ActiveNet).
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with others and vendors.
- Prepares reports, press releases, promotional materials, and correspondence.
- Maintains inventories, orders necessary supplies and materials for program functions.
- Conducts/attends staff meetings with part-time staff.
- Maintains facility to include equipment, safety and appearance. Promotes the safety of all program participants.
- Assists with the set-up and take-down of tables, chairs, and equipment for all facility activities including special events.
- Assists with monitoring budget expenditures in specified areas
- May be required to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Essentials, methods, and techniques in providing childcare services.
- Methods and techniques of developing, planning and organizing group recreational activities to include special events, excursions and daily program activities.
- Budget, principles and practices.
- Purchasing procedures.
- Skilled in the operations a computer terminal and word processing.
- Ability to assist in effectively recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating the work of recreational staff.
- Ability to identify methods to maximize the effectiveness of services and programs being provided.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, participants and parents.
- Communicate and ensure adherence with safety standards, practices and requirements.
- Perform community and public relations.
- Ability to coordinate, eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing slightly skilled movements, such as pressing, cutting or mixing.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to light work, typically involving some combinations of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, carrying, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to maneuver and steer equipment and machinery requiring simple, but continuous adjustments, such as operating a motor vehicle.
- Ability to lift, push and pull 15 pounds.
- Ability to work weekend and evening hours.

- Ability to work under moderately safe and comfortable conditions with exposure to environmental factors may cause discomfort and where there is a risk of injury, requiring minimal recovery.

Salary : $37,294 - $41,122
