SUMMARY
Performs a variety of routine and complex duties in enforcing building, gas, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing related codes, and ordinances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspect residential building construction activity (building, gas, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) within the city or within the City’s planning area jurisdiction.
- Answers questions and provides information to the public, City staff, engineers, architects, developers, and other interested parties regarding building code related items.
- Conducts field inspections. Inspect various sites according to citizens’ complaints. Interprets City ordinances. Develops and maintains various records and reports.
- Interprets and applies various codes and ordinances in everyday situations. Maintains a variety of logs and records related to inspection activities, prepares recommendations for amendments and additions to codes or regulations that relate to the position.
- Always Provides a high level of customer service; project and maintain a positive image on behalf of the City of Siloam Springs with those contacted in the course of work.
- Explains, interprets, and provides guidance regarding all applicable codes to the city staff, City leaders, as well as the general public.
- Provides information to people who request information or assistance in code-related matters.
- Maintain files and records related to citations and violations; prepare a variety of written reports, memorandums, and correspondence.
- Resolves complex and sensitive customer service issues, personally, either by telephone or in writing.
- Maintains records and documents on customer service issues and resolutions.
- Inputs and retrieves a variety of information using a computer.
- Attend conferences, schools, and meetings to keep abreast of current trends in the field of code enforcement and building construction, and to maintain licenses or certifications on the respective areas of expertise.
- Serves as a member of various employee committees.
- Demonstrates continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processed, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide seamless customer service.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.63 - $32.03 per hour
