SUMMARY
This position ensures the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. The Lifeguard must be prepared to react in an emergency situation and provide appropriate emergency care when needed, be knowledgeable of customer service standards and procedures, and enforce the facility procedures, rules and regulations in a consistent manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Maintain surveillance of patrons in the facility.
- Eliminate hazardous conditions or behaviors that could result in injury.
- Enforce all pool rules and regulations.
- Recognize and respond quickly and effectively to all emergency situations.
- Provide emergency care when needed.
- Inform other lifeguards and facility staff when additional help or equipment is needed.
- Maintain 10/20 rule of protection while on duty.
- Complete required reports and forms.
- Educate patrons about facility rules and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Must be at least 16 years of age.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Considerable knowledge of aquatics programs.
- Two (2) years paid lifeguard experience or previous lifeguard supervisory experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondences and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to rate, ration and percent, draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.
