SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for the daily operations of the Family Aquatic Center, including all pools and slides, dressing room facilities, offices and storage space, and pool equipment.  The work includes supervision and training of a large staff, promotion and implementation programs, public relations, and daily facility maintenance.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (Other duties may be assigned as needed)

 

  1. Supervise the activities in and around the pool to insure policies, rules and regulations are observed.
  2. Manage swim lessons for beginning through advanced skill levels.
  3. Handle and promptly report any problems that may arise.  Problems may include public relations, staff relations, and facility or equipment needs.
  4. Complete Incident and Suspension Report forms for patrons who have received multiple warnings.
  5. Complete Release from Responsibility form for patrons who refuse transportation by ambulance to a medical facility.
  6. Maintain staff schedule, including staffing for swim lessons, daily pool needs, and special parties.
  7. Ensure cleanliness of facility, proper chemical content in pool, proper care of equipment and timely requisition of supplies.
  8. Conduct continuing education on the latest techniques of pool rescue and safety for all pool personnel.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position indirectly supervises seasonal employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Three years directly related aquatic experience.
  • Considerable knowledge in planning, organizing, and implementing aquatics programs.
  • Working knowledge of swimming pool filters, mechanical systems and the use of chemicals for swimming pool and water chemistry.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondences and procedure manuals.   Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to rate, ration and percent, draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (if required)

  • Valid drivers’ license
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Lifeguard Certification

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit and taste or smell.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.   The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this position include; close, distant and color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to outdoor weather conditions and works near moving mechanical parts.

 

The employee constantly is exposed to wet and dry conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

*Weather Essential position includes employees are declared to be all sworn police officers, all sworn firefighters, dispatchers, emergency road crew employees in the Street Department, and electrical personnel in the Electric Department.
