The Director of Public Works serves as a visionary leader on the Executive Leadership Team, overseeing the City’s critical infrastructure and public works services. Appointed by the City Manager and reporting to the City Manager’s Office, this role is responsible for providing strategic direction and operational oversight for the department’s divisions, programs, services, and facilities. This executive role oversees a broad spectrum of departmental functions, including engineering, water and wastewater systems, streets and drainage, facilities maintenance, capital improvement projects, and environmental initiatives. The Director ensures that Public Works aligns with Southlake’s mission and values, serving as a key contributor to the City’s strategic goals.
This role demands technical expertise paired with the ability to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement while demonstrating strong leadership and effective communication within the department.
The salary range for this position is $152,000 to $200,000 and will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a similar field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible public works, engineering, or a closely related field, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
- The possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) is required. Candidates with similar credentials outside of Texas must have the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Texas.
