DESCRIPTION
Officiate at competitive athletic or sporting events; detect infractions of rules and decide penalties according to established regulations; provide the public with information and assistance pertaining to facility use; enforce facility rules; promote safety.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a high school diploma; experience involving public contact work in a park or recreation program preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada Class C driver's license
Completion of a recognized First Aid course and CPR Certification is preferred
Civil Service Testing:
This position is a temporary position and is not a Civil Service position. There is no civil service testing for this position.
Examples of Essential Duties
Officiate at sporting events, games, or competitions, to maintain standards of play and to ensure that game rules are observed; explain rules and regulations governing a specific sport; signal participants or other officials to make them aware of infractions or to otherwise regulate play or competition.
Ensure the timely play of all games; provide a positive image; maintain a safe, secure and friendly environment; keep track of event times, including start time and elapsed time during games, starting or stopping play when necessary.
Inspect sporting equipment and examine participants in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations; verify credentials of participants and make other qualifying determinations such as team rosters and starting order.
Judge performances in sporting competitions in order to award points, impose scoring penalties, and determine results; resolve claims of rule infractions or complaints by participants and assess any necessary penalties, according to regulations; compile scores and other athletic records.
Report to Recreation Supervisor regarding sporting activities, complaints made and actions taken or needed such penalties, warnings or other disciplinary actions; confer with other sporting officials, coaches, players and facility managers in order to provide information, coordinate activities and discuss problems.
Provide the public with information pertaining to facility use; respond to citizen inquires; establish cooperative relationships with facility users; provide assistance.
Promote safety and the proper use of facilities in compliance with City ordinances and facility rules and procedures; maintain order, prevent altercations; provide warnings and notify law enforcement when dealing with a potentially dangerous or emergency situation; process paperwork such as accident and incident reports.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and other duties which may be assigned.

Physical Demands
Must be able to work extended periods on your feet and capable of extensive walking and arm movement; must be able to tolerate extreme heat and weather conditions including dust and wind.
Supplemental Information
Must pass a detailed background investigation and drug test.
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.

This position reports to the Recreation Supervisor or their designee.
This is a temporary position; this is not a Civil Service position and is non-eExempt under FLSA guidelines.
