Description
Performs intermediate human support work supervising the safe use of public swimming facilities by pool visitors; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.
Examples of Duties
Ensuring safety of swimmers, maintaining swimming pool and facilities
Supervising pool operations, preparing records and reports
Plans, supervises and assigns daily lifeguard tasks
- Supervises training and skills maintenance of Life guarding staff
- Maintains records of fees collected, attendance, etc.
- Maintains discipline at a swimming pool.
- Provides work safety and swimming instructions to lifeguards, patrons and special groups.
- Observes actions of swimmers and enforces water safety and pool rules
- Provides emergency life saving services to swimmers in need
- Cleans the pool and related facilities on a regular schedule, tests pool chemicals
- Opens and closes pool, accepts and accounts for fees
- Ensures pool, pool deck and restrooms are clean and safe
- Adheres to Blood Borne Pathogens Protocols.
Typical Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of water safety rules and life saving, first aid practices and techniques.
Experience as a lifeguard and maintaining a swimming pool.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma.
Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
Minimum age is 15. Must pass drug test, background check, reference check and have a valid SC drivers’ license.
Required Certifications: American Red Cross Basic and Instructor Level certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, and Preventing Disease Transmission certificates. Certified Pool Operator's License. Swim Instructor Certifications and Water Fitness Certifications are preferred but not required.
